Beginner + Skills needed: knit, purl, yarn over, knitting in the round.
I knit this poncho for my niece Bella to wear in the summer time. Her mom requested that I make it in bright colors. I added the Squiggle yarn just for fun! I didn't have a model, so I used the buddha statue instead..I think it's fitting!
Size 6-10(10-18, 18-24) months
Materials Yarn A: Gedifra Modern Cotton [50% Cotton, 35% Viscose, 15% Polyester; 125m per 50 g skein] color#: 3267; 1 skein. (Any worsted weight yarn could also be substituted.) Yarn B: Filatura di Crosa Brilla [58% Viscose, 42% Cotton; 120 yd/110m per 50 g skein] color#: 412; 1 skein. Yarn C: Crystal Palace Yarns Squiggle [50% Nylon, 50% Polyester; 100 yd per 50 g skein] color#: 9289; 1 skein. 1 16 inch US #10/6mm circular needle 1 24 inch US #10/6mm circular needle Gauge: 14 sts/20 rows = 4” in St st with yarn B.
Pattern Using the 16 inch needle and yarn A, CO 64(68,72) sts. Place marker and join in the rnd. Work in k1p1 rib for 6 rounds. Change to yarn B, *k 16(17,18) sts, pm* repeat 3 more times. (It is helpful is the last marker is a different color or size as it marks the ending of each round.) Row 1: *K to 1 st before next marker, yo, k1, slip marker, yo* rep 3 more times including the end of the round marker. Row 2: Knit. Repeat these two rows until there are 24(29,34) sts between each marker. Row 3: K until the first marker, remove it. K to 1 st before second marker, yo, k1, slip marker, yo. K until the third marker, remove it. K to 1 st before last marker, yo, k1, slip marker, yo. Row 4: Knit. Row 5: *K to 1 st before marker, yo, k1, slip marker, yo* rep 1 more time. Row 6: Knit. Repeat Row 5 and 6 until desired length or until yarn B is almost gone. (Change to 24 inch needles when stitches get crowded.) Change to yarn C. With two strands of yarn C held together, work 5 rows in garter st. BO loosely. Weave in all ends.
